NETA ACADEMIC DIVISION – Call for Papers – New England Translators Association Annual Conference
The New England Translators Association (NETA) will be holding its annual conference on Saturday, April 27th, 2024.
The NETA Academic Division, in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Boston, welcomes panels and presentations proposed and organized by professors or students, as well as professor panel discussions and roundtables.
This is an invaluable opportunity for translation and interpreting trainers to share their expertise and together advance the field of translation studies. It is also a chance for students interested in translation and interpreting studies to present their work, interact with working translators and interpreters, and explore the profession.

Job Description:
The Latino Marketing Agency, an audiovisual production company based in Springfield, Massachusetts, is seeking a talented and dedicated intern to join our team as a Translator and Interpreter. As an intern, you will play a vital role in providing bilingual/bicultural translation and interpretation services for our audiovisual productions that have already been created in the Spanish language. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on projects that are broadcasted worldwide, contributing to our mission of connecting companies with the Latino and Hispanic community through captivating audiovisual products and digital marketing.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and culturally sensitive translation and interpretation services from Spanish to English and vice versa for our audiovisual productions.
- Collaborate with the production team to generate high-quality translations for projects assigned to interns. Ensure that translated content maintains the intended message, tone, and cultural context.
- Conduct thorough research on cultural nuances and current trends to enhance translation accuracy and effectiveness.
- Work closely with the team of producers, videographers, photographers, and designers to ensure seamless integration of translated content into the final audiovisual products.
- Assist in translating marketing materials, including brochures, advertisements, social media content, and website copy.
- Support the team with proofreading and editing translated content to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Requirements:
- Fluency in both English and Spanish, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Deep understanding of linguistic and cultural nuances in both languages, particularly within the Latino and Hispanic context.
- Proficiency in translation software and tools is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to deliver accurate translations within given timelines.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a passion for language, culture, and audiovisual production.
- Knowledge of marketing concepts and terminology is beneficial.

Job Opportunity On-Site in the Boston Area
A National Television Network is looking for an experienced simultaneous interpreter who can assist with simultaneous interpreting during a taped interview with four Spanish-speaking migrants in the Boston area in mid-August. The interpreter will listen to the correspondent’s question in English and convey it in Spanish, and then do the reverse for the migrants’ answers.

The Cervantes Institute at Harvard University organizes its eighth annual symposium, with the general theme “Spanish in/for Science and Technology,” and an attractive program including two keynote lectures by prestigious researchers: Roger Fu (John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Natural Sciences at Harvard University) and Pilar Manchón (Senior Director of Engineering, AI Research Strategy, at Google Research). The conference will also feature a range of experts from the fields of Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, as well as from the sciences, who will share unpublished papers covering a variety of topics related to the general theme chosen this year.
